European Mobility Week 2025: ACARBIO at “La città necessaria e la rivoluzione ciclabile” (“The Necessary City and the Cycling Revolution”)
As part of European Mobility Week 2025, ACARBIO from Italy joined dozens of activists, cyclists, and urban mobility advocates on September 17th at the Bicycle House in Naples for the event titled “La città necessaria e la rivoluzione ciclabile” (“The Necessary City and the Cycling Revolution”), promoted by Napoli Pedala.

Napoli Pedala and the voice of Luca Simeone
The event at Bicycle House also offered a chance to recognize the long-standing work of Napoli Pedala and its coordinator Luca Simeone, a well-known voice in Campania region for advocating bold and forward-thinking urban mobility policies.
Among the many ideas promoted by Simeone is the adoption of the "Città 30" model in Naples, reducing speed limits to 30 km/h to make streets safer for everyone, especially cyclists and pedestrians. He has long argued that safe infrastructure and smart policies are essential if cycling is to move beyond symbolism and become a real mobility option for all.
In recent years, Napoli Pedala has not only run the Napoli Bike Festival, but has also led educational projects, community repair workshops, and public campaigns across the city to normalize cycling as a daily practice, and not just a weekend hobby.
Rural-Urban Bridges on Two Wheels
The partnership between ACARBIO and Napoli Pedala began in 2024, and this latest collaboration deepens a shared goal: building bridges between city and countryside, between established cycling cultures and communities that are just beginning to embrace the potential of two wheels.
In Tramonti, a Bike Corner, developed under the BIKEable project, is taking shape: a space for basic bike repairs, small tools, and eventually bike lending to local residents, especially young people and ESC volunteers. The donated bikes from Naples will be part of this system, helping us remove some of the financial and logistical barriers to cycling in rural areas.
Looking ahead, our collaboration will continue during upcoming initiatives like the Randonnée, the yearly cycling tour that will go through Tramonti as well, with further events connecting urban and rural actors in the field of sustainable transport and healthy lifestyles.

Bringing BIKEable! to Naples
During the event, ACARBIO had the opportunity to present BIKEable, our Erasmus+ project that promotes inclusion through cycling. Alongside many local groups and cycling enthusiasts, we shared how our efforts in Tramonti are part of a broader movement, from bike repair corners to awareness campaigns, that echoes what is happening in more urban settings.
One of the most concrete outcomes of the event was the spontaneous show of support from attendees: thanks to Napoli Pedala and several amateur cyclists, a few used bikes in good condition (needing only small repairs) will be donated to ACARBIO. These bicycles will soon be made available to youth and volunteers in Tramonti, offering real alternatives for local, sustainable mobility.
